Mini-Sode: The Esther/Koester Sequester Fest!

In which Swinky and Pyuu distance themselves from everything except for the laundry room and mailbox.

We’re on voluntary lockdown! Won’t you join us? No, really. Please join us. We’d love love it if we all came together (separately, of course) in an effort to slow the spread of Covid-19. In this episode, we talk about what a unique week it’s been, breaking the developments down day by day and the impact the virus has had on our lives and our hearts. The highs have been high. The lows have been low. But on we go and on we go. As always, thanks for listening!

Happy New Year! We Welcome You With Open Arms, 2020!

The new season begins with a hearty handshake, a warm embrace and an emotional look backwards and forwards with more words untoward towards all that can be!

The winter break is over and we are back! In this premiere inaugural first debut episode for 2020, Swinky and I take a look back at 2019 and a look forward at 2020 (which is where, incidentally, we plan to spend the next year). We’ve got a lot planned (and a lot unplanned) for The Hollywood Fishbowl and we hope you’ll join us on the journey. It’s a wide open road ahead of us with guests au gusto and talking to taste. I just wrote that! With my brain and fingers! As always, thank you for listening!

Storytelling: David & David Take Over The Hollywood Fishbowl

In which David Diamond and David Weissman take over The Hollywood Fishbowl and don’t give it back... Until they do!

Jesse’s out. David’s in! Also, David’s in! Once Mr. David Weissman and Mr. David Diamond are hosting, they cover the genesis of the Nicolas Cage/Tea Leoni vehicle The Family Man. Once we’re pulling cards from The Fishbowl, we get queries on meditation, sexiness and inspiration. If that isn’t The Hollywood Fishbowl in 3 words, I don’t know what is. As always, thank you for listening!

Storytelling: David & David Deliver Dual Discussion Directly

David Diamond and David Weissman have written a fair number of movies that made it to the screen. Then, they wrote a book called Bulletproof sharing the wisdom they’ve gained from their shared multi-decade career. And, now? They’re on The Hollywood Fishbowl!

David Diamond and David Weissman have racked up quite a rap sheet in LA, including writing Evolution (directed by Ivan Reitman), Old Dogs (starring John Travolta and Robin Williams), The Family Man (starring Nicolas Cage and Tea Leoni) and Dream A Little Dream 2 (starring not one but TWO Coreys from The Brat Pack). With a multi-decade career under their belts, they felt it was time to write down the wisdom they’ve gained to share with a broader audience. And that’s how Bulletproof was born. How did it find its way to Michael Wiese Productions? Listen and find out!

Poetry: Charles Jensen Takes Over The Hollywood Fishbowl

In which Charles Jensen takes over The Fishbowl and declares that to know we exist is enough.

After all Jesse’s tough talk about the terrifically high quality of his poems in part 1, Charles steps up to the plate and hits three home runs over the course of this episode. One poem at the top, one in the middle and one at the end. He also takes over the show, acting as host, until both he and Jesse submit to the awesome power of The Fishbowl, answering question upon question, fearlessly delving into the world of randomly generated interviews!

Poetry: Charles Jensen Is The Self-Proclaimed Last Poet on The Hollywood Fishbowl

We would have loved to have had more poets on the show, but that’s all behind us now, isn’t it.

Charles Jensen is a teacher and a writer, doing the former over at UCLA Extension (https://www.uclaextension.edu/) and the latter wherever he pleases. He’s also a fan of Almodovar, which is not a bad thing to be if you’re coming on The Fishbowl. He’s also, and perhaps most importantly, the first and self-proclaimed last poet we’ll ever have on the show. If that’s the case, there’s only so much mourning we can do as Charles is a terrific guest and a terrific poet and we’d never lament going out on a high note.

Burlesque: Miss Spent Youth Takes Over The Hollywood Fishbowl

In which Marie takes over The Fishbowl and makes it sexier than it’s ever been in its entire history, with apologies to my family.

Ten cuidado! Muy caliente! This is far and away the spiciest episode we’ve ever recorded. As a burlesque teacher, Marie knows her way around luring someone out of their shell. In this episode, she brings Jesse out of his, at which point he enjoys the view ever-so-briefly and then returns to his well-known and very comfortable protective cover. There are currently no plans to top this episode in terms of bawdy dialog, so enjoy the risqué banter while it lasts. This is likely all you’re getting.

Burlesque: Marie Ilene Miss Spent Her Youth

From California to Carolina and back again, Marie built her career behind the camera until the burlesque bug bit.

Marie Ilene knows Jesse from his UNCSA days. After more than a decade apart, the two shared a joy-filled reunion at Babylon Cabaret, the burlesque show produced by Marie and Cathouse Red. But, what happened in the years between graduation and Marie’s explosive career as burlesque icon, Miss Spent Youth? Cub reporter Jesse has questions and Marie has answers! Comedy: Nicole Feenstra Takes Over The Hollywood Fishbowl

In which The Hollywood Fishbowl makes the transition from documentary to narrative.

Once in lifetime, there comes a Hollywood Fishbowl so epic... So singular... So bonkers that it will make you question everything you know about The Hollywood Fishbowl. Are we a long-form interview show? Or, are we a narrative radio show? Or, are we an improv theatre of the mind? The answer is and only can be yes. And, we’re also The Hollywood Fishbowl where-in we pull questions from a bowl and then answer them. As always, thanks for listening!

Comedy: Nicole Feenstra Made A Very Funny Web Series

Nicole Feenstra works in the world of marketing and data analysis. Jesse is a font of ignorance on those topics so the episode is instead about comedy and first kisses.

Nicole works in marketing, specifically data and analytics. Which led her to the world of podcasting as she prepared to launch her own. Which, in turn, led her to The Hollywood Fishbowl (because we love helping people launch their own podcasts). She’s also made the web series Broken Hearts Division. In this episode, we talk about Nicole’s childhood, her move to (and retreat from [and subsequent move back to]) LA and the genesis of her web series. Then, Jesse bails on the episode so that Nicole can host. Stick around for her episode and, as always, thanks for listening!
