Storytelling: Harnessing The Power Of The Solo Show With Director Valerie Hager
Director Valerie Hager discusses getting a solo show up on its feet, drug addiction (and recovery), and what it’s like growing up with a father who’s a mime.
Director Valerie Hager brings a new phrase into The Hollywood Fishbowl ecosystem and it’s one we’ve needed for a long time - “Beast Forward”. Whether she’s acting, dancing, directing or sitting on our sofa chatting, that phrase definitely functions as a beacon for Valerie. While there’s a lot to learn from what she’s working on now, including Deer Woman (a solo show written and performed by Megan Rippey), there’s just as much to be learned from the stories of her earlier years as the daughter of a mime as well as the time she spent living the life of an addict. As always, thank you for listening!

Comedy - Kristen Studdard Takes Us To The Magical Church Of Michael
In which Kristen Studard takes over The Hollywood Fishbowl.
You’ve heard Part I of the II-Part conversation with Kristen Studard. Now, it’s time for Part II of the II-Part conversation! We’ve given the reins to Kristen and she makes the most of her time as host of the show by showering praise on Magical Michael II: Extra Extra Large. Always the contrarian, Jesse runs a vibrant campaign for the dominance of Madeline Maxine III: Furious Roads as the most feminist film of all time. Because that’s what men do. When we get to The Fishbowl, we pull questions about solution, memories (courtesy of @phoeborama), love and loss (courtesy of @rrybrator) and friendly regrets. As always, thank you for listening!

Comedy - Kristen Does Her Best (And It’s Damn Good)
In which we meet the comedian behind the mad-cap brilliance of Ricky Burbank.
You know Kristen Studard from her appearances on Tim Robinson’s Has This Ever Happened To You (fun fact, Kristen’s episode also had Fishbowl Alumn Morgan Eliza Hill in it!) and Modern Family. But, we know her as the brilliant mind behind Ricky Burbank, The King Of the Valley Bros. In this conversation, Swinky and Jesse track the evolution of Kristen’s career from her childhood to landing in LA to finally cracking the shell and finding a life and career here. Also, great news! Kristen was in no rush so there’s a second part coming to this interview! As always, thank you for listening!

Comedy - Ryan Barton Joins Us In Blowing Out The Mics
In which we welcome improv comedian, drag racer and filmmaker Ryan Barton to the program.
We wanted him! We got him! Welcome to the show, Ryan Barton! After working together for over a year on UCB Drag Race, we’re thrilled to get to know the man behind the all-star-status queen Bottomless Mimosa. With a year of history and hardly 3 prior conversations between Jesse and Ryan, there’s a lot to get into. The conversation winds from Ryan’s early years finding his way in comedy to a shocking revelation that co-host Jesse never saw coming (hint: not all comedians want to be actors). Swinky’s along for the ride on this one and she brings her own set of enthusiastic questions and concerns to the conversation. As always, thank you for listening!

Journalism: Zon D’Amour Loves Tea, Turns It Down
From The Shadows of the Archives, Zon D’Amour strikes without warning, leaving not but insight in her wake!
We welcomed Zon D’Amour to The Hollywood Fishbowl ages ago, at the start of a journalism series that was harder to book than expected. We’re releasing this episode now. Why? Because it’s good and Zon emailed saying “what ever happened to that episode?” We cover a lot of ground that was relevant then (Black Panther) and even more that’s relevant now (everything else on the episode). When we get to The Fishbowl, we pull and skip unwanted medical advancements but take the time to answer questions on autobiography titles, moments of bad friendship, and the three items you’d take to an island.

Comedy: Nicole Feenstra Takes Over The Hollywood Fishbowl
In which The Hollywood Fishbowl makes the transition from documentary to narrative.
Once in lifetime, there comes a Hollywood Fishbowl so epic... So singular... So bonkers that it will make you question everything you know about The Hollywood Fishbowl. Are we a long-form interview show? Or, are we a narrative radio show? Or, are we an improv theatre of the mind? The answer is and only can be yes. And, we’re also The Hollywood Fishbowl where-in we pull questions from a bowl and then answer them. As always, thanks for listening!

Comedy: Nicole Feenstra Made A Very Funny Web Series
Nicole Feenstra works in the world of marketing and data analysis. Jesse is a font of ignorance on those topics so the episode is instead about comedy and first kisses.
Nicole works in marketing, specifically data and analytics. Which led her to the world of podcasting as she prepared to launch her own. Which, in turn, led her to The Hollywood Fishbowl (because we love helping people launch their own podcasts). She’s also made the web series Broken Hearts Division. In this episode, we talk about Nicole’s childhood, her move to (and retreat from [and subsequent move back to]) LA and the genesis of her web series. Then, Jesse bails on the episode so that Nicole can host. Stick around for her episode and, as always, thanks for listening!

Grace Chris with our Chris Grace conversation in 2 parts in part 2 of our 2-part conversation with Chris Grace!
Comedian Chris Grace has got magic to do... and also magic to do. The former is in reference to his weekly improv show, Magic To Do (which can be seen at UCB Sunset on Mondays) and the latter is in reference to the fact that he has recently started doing magic as a hobby (which can be seen at his Instagram account @ambitiouschris). If you like what you hear in this episode (and there’s a lot to hear and to like), you can also find Chris on Fresh Off The Boat, Baby Wants Candy and the very well-catered Superstore.
