Music: Life In The Mix With Burt Blackarach
Producer Burt Blackarach discusses music promotion in the age of the internet, the evergreen magic of the 808 and what to do when your dad sells your bass.
Producer and DJ Burt Blackarach grew up in the thick of the Los Angeles music scene and he never really left. The list of people he’s worked with is indeed formidable. It’s so beefy, in fact, that we decided not to list it here because it would just look like we were trying to butter up to Google’s keyword algorithms. Instead, we decided to let the man speak for himself. It’s not here for lists anyway. You’re here for insight into the world of music, DJing, producing and MCing, which Burt brings in spades. That’s right, MCing. You can call this episode Fort Knox for all the gold bars you’ll find inside. And, just when you think it’s over, Swinky jumps on the mic and styles freely. This episode is brought to you by Who’s The Ross?, a late-night talk show that can be found on the web right here: https://whostheross.com/. As always, thank you for listening!

Musicians: Pancakes, Music and Light Conversation with Robert Parker Jr. and Jennifer Foster
Musicians Robert Parker Jr and Jennifer Foster discuss finding ones network, contending with imposter syndrome and whether or not Prince was a phony.
The ever-growing network continues to grow! And grow again! If you follow our non-Fishbowl work, you’re already familiar with Robert Parker Jr. and his collaborations with Swinky (at Babylon Cabaret and strolling down the beach). We finally do the deep dive with Robert and midway through the conversation, who should jump on mic but Jennifer Foster. Swinky, Robert and Jennifer chop it up on the music front while Jesse tries to name all of the 7 dwarves. Get out your pen and pad because we’re going to be talking about a lot of musicians that you may not have heard of but will certainly want to check out. As always, thanks for listening!

Music: Navigating Cultures of Competition With Miss Charity Lockhart
Miss Charity Lockhart discusses family, putting together a tribute show and how compassion can get you the edge in an industry rife with competition.
In the history of The Hollywood Fishbowl, this conversation is easily the most likely to never have happened. Swinky first met Miss Charity Lockhart in Korea at a swing festival where the two were booked as co-headliners. While Charity was tearing up the stage and Swinky was contending with some serious imposter syndrome. To hear the story of what went right, you have to listen to the episode (spoiler: by dint of this episode existing, you can guess that there’s a happy ending). As always, thank you for listening!

Indie Musicians: Phoebe Silva Shreds The Violin For Fun And Profit
Phoebe Silva was a triple threat (violinist/singer/songwriter) until today. Now, she’s a quadruple threat (violinist/singer/songwriter/Fishbowl guest).
From New York to Alaska to Los Angeles, violinist/singer/songwriter Phoebe Silva has been performing for three decades, making her a triple-location-triple-threat. That’s exactly why the episode is as long as it is - she brings a lot of game in all areas of grinding, from keeping the confidence up when you’re feeling down and keeping the bank account up when you’re unemployed. This isn’t an interrogation though. It’s a conversation. Phoebe takes over the show and gets the skinny on Swinky and Jesse and their coupling. When we turn to The Fishbowl, we pull questions about who we’re missing, the sexiest thing we’ve done on set, the most annoying thing we’ve seen at work and our greatest influences. As always, thanks for listening!

Indie Musicians: Tony Glaser Is The Love Doctor
Host Jesse needs help with an incoming wife... STAT! And Love Doctor Tony Glaser is just the prescription that the doctor ordered to be filled by the doctor of love!
Bass player, singer and man about town Tony Glaser has just completed one year of Morning Bass Lines, a new single and a cracking music video. How does he celebrate? By coming on The Fishbowl, of course! We chuck it all down, from love to art to music to cooking and then we build it all back up. When we turn to the bowl for questions, we pull an @iamkatefaust classic about Seal, a question about compromised morals from @rksuttle and one from @charlesjensen about friendly betrayals. As always, thank you for listening!

Indie Musicians: A.R.S.N.K. Is An Artist, Musical and Otherwise
A.R.S.N.K made Jesse sweat with anxiety the first time he shot her performing live. Clearly, they’ve managed to scoop the friendship up since then and it’s good that they did. Had they not, we wouldn’t have this conversation on being invisible in your art, living homeless, sleep paralysis, and phenomenology.

Had they not, we wouldn’t have this conversation on being invisible in your art, living homeless, sleep paralysis, and phenomenology. After we get through all of that, we turn to the Fishbowl, pulling questions from previous guests, Craft By Maki, Pamela Jaye Smith and Non-Fishbowler Shiz. Other than that, we have three questions that rhyme (a fabulous first, if ever there was one)! ‘When did you last cry’, ‘how do you want to die’ and ‘what animal do you want to be and why’? As always, thank you for listening!

Indie Musicians: Ashley Lowry Knows The Truth About Pawns
Singer/Songwriter Ashley Lowry doesn’t just know the truth about pawns, she shares it with us, but not before opening up about her life, which goes from LA to Nashville and back, her music and how she contends with the vulnerability inherent to being an artist.
Ashley Lowry has been in the music game for quite some time. She started her journey with The Lowry Sisters, playing guitar and providing backup vocals. Ashley didn’t stop making music after the trio split. In fact, she did just the opposite and produced a full album independently and is on the cusp of releasing it single-by-single as Solar Yellow Human. Not only does Ashley tell the whole story on this week’s episode but she also performs two songs off of the upcoming album. There’s a lot to sink your teeth into on this episode. Enjoy!
